      What the Month of September is Known For.

          

 September is the ninth month of the year and marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern hemisphere and the start of spring in the Southern hemisphere. September is one of the four months with 30 days. The other three months are April, June and November.

The name September comes from the Latin "septem" for seven, since this was the seventh month of the Roman calendar. The month was named during a time when the calendar year began with March, which is why its name no longer corresponds with its placement in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. 

   September starts on the same day of the week as December each year, but does not end on the same day of the week as any other month in the year.

   September has three birth flowers, and they are all very passionate flowers: the forget-me-not, the morning glory and the aster. The birth stone for the month is the sapphire that represents clarity of thought, intuition, and peacefulness.

   Labor Day is the most well known holiday in September. It is observed every year on the first Monday in the month. September marks the beginning of the ecclesiastical year in the Eastern Orthodox Church and is the start of the academic year in many countries in which children go back to school after the summer break, usually the day over Labor Day.

September is the ideal time to make major purchases. While it is best to purchase refrigerators in May, it is suggested that all other appliances be bought in September because new models come out around this time, and dealers want to get rid of the older models. Other best buys in September include bicycles, cars, lawnmowers, holiday airfare, school supplies and wine.
